Words can't express how much Mano has helped me. I was suffering from chairi malformation from number of years. Every other doctor I spoke with before was unable to explain what exactly this was or even how it could be treated. I was living in constant pain and had a poor quality of life. After meeting Mano I was then finally able to understand why I was suffering and more importantly I could finally see how this could be treated. In January 2016 Mano performed decompression surgery to help relieve my symptoms. Mano had explained that this would be major surgery and the recovery could be difficult. He was right. The recovery took several months to get through but as soon as I had the surgery I instantly noticed that my symptoms had improved drastically. This was a life changing treatment for me. It's now been 2 years since my surgery and I am delighted to say that I no longer suffer from my symptoms. Mano has kept in touch throughout my treatment and I have had reviews to make sure I am doing well. I am so grateful that I was referred to Mano and can't even imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't had the surgery. He is very friendly and informative. He always kept my expectations realistic and to me the best doctor/surgeon ever.

At the end of Jan 2017, my youngest son Eoin ( who was 2) fell off the arm of a chair. He was admitted to Antrim Hospital the following day were he remained very sleepy with no energy. Two days later he was transferred to the Royal Hospital in Belfast and that evening underwent an operation to save his wee life. Pressure in Eoin's head was moving from one side of his brain to the other and would have eventually pressed down on his organs and ended his life. Mano and his team preformed a craniotomy which involved removing a bone from Eoin's skull and 'preserving' it in his tummy. This was to decrease the swelling and ultimately save our son's life. Mano and his colleagues were all on call that night and if the truth be told Mano was about to relax, sit down and watch a football match! We met Mano for the first time after the operation. Eoins hope of survival and making a full recovery was bleak to say the least but somehow I always felt that being under his care he would make it. Words which I would best use to describe Mano correctly would be that of a miracle worker. He was direct and honest with us but at all times reassuring. Eoin returned to the Royal Hospital in June 2017 to have the bone removed from his tummy and placed back in his skull. For my husband and family this was again a very frightening time for us all again but Mano assured us that this operation was somewhat ' simple' compared to his initial one. We put our trust in him yet again and thanks to him and his team it was performed with no complications. I would recommend Mano without a second of hesitation. He is a warm, caring, friendly individual who is absolutely excellent at his job. We can't thank him enough for saving our son's life.

I seen Mr Mano Shanmuganathan privately at Three Five Two Group in Belfast regarding advice over a head injury and brain cyst. To say he was the best doctor I have ever seen would be an understatement. He was genuinely exceptional in every way. I could not recommend this guy enough. His knowledge, professionalism, ability to answer all my questions and reassure me was simply first class. I have seen neurosurgeons in the past and while I could not fault any of them I do have to be honest and say none of them were able to explain the cyst and scan images to me as well as Mr Mano Shanmuganathan. I cannot recommend this guy enough!!

In November 2016 my 10 year old daughter was complaining of blurry vision for a few days, and had complained of headaches on and off for approx. 3 years. I made her an opticians appointment and he advised that she had swollen optic nerves at the back of both eyes. The optician recommended I take her to A&E at the RVH to have the cause of this investigated. I took her straight to A&E and within a few hours, following a CT and MRI scan it was confirmed that she had a significant mass on her brain. My daughter was admitted and immediately placed under the care of Mano (Mr Shanmuganathan). I believe Mano came in on his day off to review my daughter's scans and speak personally with me, my family and most importantly, my daughter - which says a massive amount in itself. Mano was extremely professional, direct, honest, reassuring, and empathetic when explaining everything to us. From the minute I met Mano he filled me with complete confidence and reassurance that he was going to do absolutely everything he could to save and look after my daughter. Within a day and a half of my daughter being diagnosed with a significant sized brain tumour in A&E, Mano and his team were carrying out a 9 hour operation to remove it. From beginning to end the team took fantastic care of my daughter, lead impeccably the entire time by Mano. I was kept updated throughout her surgery, she received brilliant care whilst in ICU following her surgery and then faultless care from the nurses in Paul Ward for the next 5 days. Within the space of just one week Mano and his team had removed my daughters brain tumour, the nursing team had managed her pain and met her every need, physiotherapists etc. had got her up walking/moving again and best of all Mano was able to confirm that her results from the lab had come back confirming that the tumour was benign and she could go home (just 5 days after her surgery - unbelievable!). No words can ever describe how amazing and talented I think Mano is and I am eternally thankful to him for all he has done and continues to do. Throughout my daughters care Mano has always been so positive, straight talking and extremely friendly. I have had complete trust and faith in him throughout and this continues with her on-going care, with regular one to one check-up appointments with Mano himself and on-going MRI scans. All of which will continue for the next 10 years, which is fantastic and very reassuring as a parent. I would recommend Mano all day long, every day of the week! And anyone placed in his care is extremely fortunate to have someone so incredible and talented looking after them!
